The thing I find interesting in Norway
INTERESTING EDUCATION SYSTEM
One thing I find
interesting in Norway is a type of school called Folk high school. Folk high
school gives people a chance to have a gap year and do various things such as
outdoor activities, sports, travel, do music, cosplay, media, and
communication. In Norway, there are totally 80 Folk high schools, spread around
in different parts of the country. I got a chance to live at Lundheim Folk high
school located in the south. At Lundheim this year 75 young people are living
together attending the different programs offered at the school. As days go by, when I look back at what I do
on a daily basis, it makes me feel grateful. At the school, I have access to
resources and skills that I would normally not have if I was seated in a class
only. I see it’s all about getting skills that I can’t get through sitting in
class and listening only. At Lundheim the students are “learning by doing.”
Even though the aim is to
take a gap year, the year comes with very many opportunities and skills. During
the stay in Folk high school, students get a chance to specialize in any course
of their choice. They are learning many skills, still, there are no exams
required. From my point of view, this can reduce stress and even motivate learning. I have come to the conclusion that it will be a good idea for Tanzania to
start Folk high school because we already have boarding schools which are
a little bit the same as Folk high school. If Tanzania launches this kind of
school in the country it will bring positive development to the education
system as students will get some rest after completing Form six before going to
University. From my point of view Tanzania students will get a lot of benefits
from joining the Folk high school, and just to name a few;
Students will have time
to think about what their goal and calling in life is and what faculty they should
study at university.
Through Folk high school,
students can develop new skills in life and these skills will not only be their
new hobbies, but they can use them in their personal life and after they
graduate because during job searching employers take into consideration even
special hobbies and skills that you can bring into the table.
Travelling is one of the
things people do during their time in these schools. Travelling will build a sense
of wonder and adventure for the students. Learning a new way of life, language,
food, weather and so much more, therefore, they will be able to experience what
the world has to offer from new sites and new experiences.
They will develop
independence and self-reliance because being away from home instills in you a
sense of responsibility and awareness that you owe yourself self-care and love
to live a happy and fulfilled life. During the gap year in these schools you
get to learn to be more independence before going to college and that’s is more
important because it will give you a serious look in life before diving right
into the next chapter of your life.
This place has helped me
build up my resume and have taught me that I can do so much more.
By taking everything into
account with all the life skills, new experiences, hobbies, independence, traveling, and all the opportunities you become a newly developed person with
qualities that can create more opportunities in life.
Seriously we really need this in Tanzania.....exams are hectic

DeleteEverybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
